When is the Best Time for Exterior Home Remodeling?
You may think that summer is the best time for exterior home remodeling. After-all, you have sunny days, little rain, and warm weather which make working outside enjoyable. However, there is a lot to think about and consider when planning your exterior home remodeling project, and summer is not always the best season to do home remodeling.
Supply and Demand
After Christmas, all the Christmas decorations go on clearance. After Halloween, costumes are sold for cheap. The same is true in the remodeling industry. The price of materials like wood, brick, paint, etc., can fluctuate greatly depending on the time of year. If you are doing your remodel yourself, you may want to make your purchases during the winter months. After the summer, building material supply stores such as Lowes, Menards, and Home Depot, have end of season sales to make space for the winter needs. This is especially true if you live in the Midwest or other area that gets a lot of snow in the winter.
Remodel During a Contractor’s Slow Time
Contractors can get very busy, very quickly and an emergency on one job site may stall the progress on yours. If you value being able to have your contractor be easily reachable and flexible, ask them when their slow times of year are and schedule your remodel for that time. You are also more likely to get a good deal on pricing when contractors are slower because they will offer discounts to draw in more business.
Seasonal Changes
If you need to replace your windows, don’t wait until summer. Do it in early spring before the rainy season starts or in the fall right before the cold sets in. Be smart with your timing and choices so that you can make the most out of your project and the contractor’s time. If you need to paint the exterior of your home, make sure you do so at a time where there isn’t much rain expected. If you know you want a new deck next summer, build it during the winter time so that you can enjoy it all summer instead of spending the summer building it.
